Originally established in the 1940s in Birkenhead, Wirral Metals Limited has a large, permanent staff of 14 who are fully trained in site safety, service quality and risk management. Under the present owner, Simon Flood, the business has expanded into a large new site at Port Sunlight, Merseyside (find Wirral Metals Limited).
With a strong focus on all aspects of safety and exceptional customer service, Wirral Metals Limited offer extensive metals recycling facilities, and skip and stillage hire at competitive prices.
Wirral Metals Limited also prides itself in meeting all conditions of the 2013 Scrap Metals Dealers Act (see below).
Experienced
Managing Director Geoff Astle took over the running of Wirral Metals Limited from owner Simon Flood in November 2016, having worked for the company since 1990. Geoff is responsible for the day-to-day running of the two scrap yards with respect to purchasing, supplier management and team management.
Geoff’s main aim is to provide unbeatable customer service, while ensuring both sites and services are safe for customers and staff. The company’s focus on quality is reflected in the growing list of accreditations that Wirral Metals Limited have achieved. Read more about these accreditations on the Quality page.
Simon, who originally took over in 1987, retains his role as Director involved in International Waste Shipments and sales.
Fully accredited
Wirral Metals Limited are fully accredited with a number of professional organisations, including ISO9001 for quality and business process management, CHAS – for Health and Safety, and WAMITAB – for technical competence in the waste management industry.

Our Fleet
At Wirral Metals Limited we run a fleet of vehicles and skips that includes:
- 6 hook lift trucks to support our safety skip service
- a range of smaller vehicles for various services on and off site
- over 100 hooklift skips ranging from 8-40 cubic yards

Legislation – The 2013 Scrap Metal Dealers Act
This act states that it is illegal for Wirral Metals Limited to receive scrap metal delivered to our sites without having seen, or have on recent record, the ID of the driver delivering the goods.
The driver’s ID must be either:
- a current photo-type driving licence (not provisional), or
- a valid passport
and a recent utility bill.
If you have a debit card when you arrive on site, Wirral Metals Limited can pay directly to your bank account.
Wirral Metals Limited may, under certain circumstances, take the goods into quarantine until such a point that ID has been made available, however, this will only be the case when it is not practicable to take the goods away, or it is delivered by a long serving customer and ID needs updating.
These conditions must be met by ALL Scrap Metal Merchants in England and Wales from 1st December 2013.
